During a trip to Tenerife, a must-see for nature lovers and those seeking exceptional attractions is the majestic Pino Gordo. This centuries-old tree, considered one of the largest in Spain and a symbol of resilience and beauty, offers a unique experience in the heart of the island. It’s an ideal stop to include on a trip to the Teide National Park.
The Pino Gordo: A Natural Wonder
Located in the Rural Park of Teno, in the northwestern part of Tenerife, the Pino Gordo is one of the main natural attractions of the island. This Canary Island pine tree (Pinus canariensis), dating back centuries, stands tall, reaching a height of over 40 meters and a circumference of over 10 meters. Its grandeur and the elegance of its branches make it an authentic natural monument.
In addition to its beauty, the Pino Gordo symbolizes resistance and adaptation to the surrounding environment. Notably, Canary pines are known for their ability to survive fires and other natural disasters thanks to their thick and resilient bark. The history and strength of the Pino Gordo convey a message of hope and resilience, making it an even more significant attraction to visit.
