To reach Tenerife by plane there are two airports, the one located in the north called Los Rodeos and located two kilometers from San Cristobal de la Laguna and eleven kilometers from the capital Santa Cruz, and the one located in the South called Reina Sofia ( named in honor of Queen Sofia of Greece) located between El Medano and Los Abrigos.
The Northern airport is mainly intended for island and national inter-island flights, while the international ones concentrate more on the South, being more touristy. In 2002 the new Terminal was inaugurated with more modern services and facilities, although this airport was used for the first time already in 1929, although not with an official flight. To visit the island, outside the airport there are many rent a car, the Taxi service in front of the main Terminal or some bus lines that lead to the South or to Puerto de la Cruz.
Inside the airport there are some shops for the last minute shopping, bars, restaurants, pharmacy and, in case of necessity, also an emergency room. There is also a business area, VIP waiting room, where you can connect to the wifi network. In front of the airport there is a garage where you can park for a maximum of thirty minutes without having to pay any fees.
The South airport, trafficked by many tourist and commercial flights, handles about eleven million passengers a year, splitting all the traffic into a single runway and a large terminal. As for the North airport, there are buses that, with regular rides, accompany tourists around the island while the Taxi stop is right at the arrivals exit; many rent a car with various corners inside the airport.
If you have to go and get someone, you can be stationed in the dedicated area but for no more than 15 minutes and we advise you not to leave the car otherwise fine (80 euros). It would be useful to opt to park within the parking area (900 seats) quite cheap to not have any surprises. Unfortunately, the arrivals are at the bottom of the airport where it is not possible to park in any way, so a little inconvenient for all those passengers who arrive and who are forced to get all the airport to get out of the departures (where friends or relatives they are waiting for them). On the first floor a large VIP room with wifi and conference facilities, relaxation areas and smoking areas, bars and restaurants; throughout the terminal there are services and areas without architectural barriers for the disabled and a tactile path for the blind. The airport includes an area for children, an emergency room, pharmacies and a small post office.
Have a good trip to everyone!
