In the municipality of Guia de Isora, just a short distance from Los Gigantes, there is a small coastal bay called Alcalà.
Its origin is totally linked to fishing, and so it remained until exported agriculture required a large amount of labor; in this way, I moved from a fishing village to a village of farmers, primarily for the cultivation of tomatoes and, in secundis, for the banana plantations.
Now it is considered a beautiful village with its beach, Playa la Jaquita, its shops and also a natural pool.
As soon as you arrive in Alcalà, you will have a hard time not to notice the Grand Hotel Melia. Located in front of the ocean in Alcalá, has a large salt-water infinity pool with hydromassage area and offers direct access to the beach and natural seawater swimming pools: Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday!
Alcalà also celebrates two very important festivals in honor of its Patron Saint, the Virgin of Candelaria, which take place on February 2nd and August 15th.
In the morning, after mass, a procession is made by sea to reach the nearby cities. Once you arrive at the pier, you make great offers of flowers and release many doves in flight and continue to the nearby towns of Playa de San Juan, Fonsalía, Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes.
In the evening, during the Noche de Fuegos, more than 700 kg of explosives illuminate the sky, the sea and the bay of Alcalà starting at 24.00 for a pyrotechnic exhibition of about twenty-five minutes that brings together thousands of people every year.
The colors, sounds and fabulous lights that have been taking place here for almost a century have become one of the most spectacular events in Tenerife, if not all of the Canary Islands.
