03 Jan Natural Pools Garachico – El Caleton
The El Caletón natural pools are located in Garachico, between the municipal swimming pool and the castle of San Miguel, right on the edge of the avenue, near the Paseo Marítimo de Garachico.
In 1700 there was, in Tenerife, a volcanic eruption that buried forever the old port of Garachico giving life to what is today called the Natural Pool El Caleton, formed, among other things, by different “puddles” (Las Viejas , Los Niños, Los Chorros, …)
As a place of great tourist concentration, El Caleton isn’t only a beautiful swimming area, but while you are in the water you can see the cliffs of La Culata and part of the Tenerife’s northern coast .
The new port, the spectacular promenade with restaurants, especially fish, and shops for shopping, make this place a prestigious point of interest for the whole family.
Nearby we find the town of Garachico, historical heritage and of great beauty, the El Muellito beach and a rural hotel, where you can stay.
A different but unique place in the summer, there are also lifeguards who watch the sea, before diving look at the color of the flag to see if it is possible to swim.
After diving, you can take a shower and change into the toilet and, if you allow us a tip, in the busy months we recommend to park near a football field just minutes from the natural pool.
You can reach El Caleton either by car or by public transport. With the car use the TF-5 that goes from Santa Cruz to Icod de Los Vinos up to cross the TF-42 leading to Buenavista or take the line 363 that leaves from Puerto de la Cruz and arrives at Buenavista or the 107 that departs from the capital Santa Cruz.
