The Anaga Rural Park is a protected area of outstanding beauty located in the Macizo de Anaga on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This park covers 14,500 hectares and offers astonishing biodiversity, hosting a unique variety of plant and animal species, many of them endemic to the region. For this reason, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2015. The spectacular laurisilva forests, made up of laurel trees and other evergreen plants, are a predominant feature of the park. They are among the oldest in Tenerife and testify to a history dating back some 40,000 years.
What to see in Anaga
Within the Anaga Rural Park, visitors and trekkers can explore a network of well-marked hiking trails suitable for different abilities and experience levels. The hikes offer breathtaking views, crossing deep valleys, jagged ridges and hazy forests. To get the most out of the experience, guided tours are also available.
Strategic vantage points within the park provide spectacular views of cliffs, valleys and the surrounding ocean, ideal for photography enthusiasts. If you come from the dry South of Tenerife, you will surely be amazed at such a lush landscape! Anaga’s natural beauty is complemented by Playa de Benijo, a fascinating beach with black volcanic sand where we took you in this video. The colours at sunset are truly incredible, but be careful when swimming as the ocean tends to be rough and the beach does not offer any kind of service.
It is important to emphasise the conservation and protection efforts dedicated to the Anaga Rural Park, aimed at preserving this unique ecosystem and ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy this natural treasure. All in all, the Anaga Rural Park is an extraordinary destination for nature lovers, hikers and those seeking a true experience of the natural and cultural wonders of the Canary Islands.
