LORO PARQUE TENERIFE

The Loro Parque was created in 1970 by the Germans Wolfgang Kiessling and his father. On December 17, 1972, the park officially opened its doors to the public. At the beginning it had an area of about 13,000 m² in which the natural habitat of the animals was reproduced, more than 150 parrots with the first show dedicated in Europe. Currently the extension is 135,000 m². Since its inauguration, Loro Parque has received more than 40 million tourists.

The Loro Parque is mainly known for the largest collection of parrots in the world, if we translate Loro means parrot. In the park there are 800 species of parrots from various parts of the world, and about 350 species are threatened by extinction or no longer exist in the wild. Currently there are over 3000 parrots that can be admired by all visitors.

Among the animals that can be found in the Park, we find:

alligators, chimpanzees, gorillas, iguanas, jaguars, otters, sloths, penguins, meerkats, tigers, turtles, the red panda, African lions, the anteater, Bears of Hormigueros etc …

In 1994, the Loro Parque Fundación was created within the Park to promote the conservation, protection and recovery of species threatened by extinction.

It was the first zoo in the world to receive the Animal Embassy certificate in 2008.
